This is one of those pieces that you can see clearly in your head, and just struggle to get onto paper.

Originally she was in an hourglass, oblivious to the golden sand piling up at her feet and filling up her universe. Unfortunately drawing the hourglass at the size that would hold a human would be too large to fit on the paper without losing the girl, and focusing completely on her would have lost the hourglass’ definition.

After a year of artistic deliberation, the hourglass had to go.

The new background features a universe where the stars are falling out of the sky. The girl is a bit more aware of the issue, but still doesn’t fully comprehend the predicament.

This was originally sketched, inked, and scanned to color in Photoshop.

Or, as my husband decided after his George R. R. Martin marathon, a dance of fire and ice. A friend of mine was kind enough to let us photo-shoot a ballet rehearsal at her dance studio. It was amazing to watch the performers move in perfect balance and symmetry with each other. Immediately my mind went to the seasons and the elements.

This piece was sketched, inked, and scanned and colored in Photoshop.

The website is going under a little bit of a redesign right now. It’s said that the cobbler’s children go barefoot, and this is definitely the case with my own site. An update is long overdue.

I spent most of this morning outside pulling weeds and trying to get the yard back in shape. The on-again off-again rain and sun has turned my backyard into a jungle. There’s tons of wildlife right now, and it was good to be out in the sunshine and playing in the dirt. The only thing is I don’t believe I would wish star jasmine on my worst enemy. I have no idea how long the backyard was neglected for, but it has grown from one corner of the yard onto every available tall surface.
